Cutting back and reducing expenses

My family lives very simply, a choice that lets me stay home with the kids. That choice makes it necessary for us to examine the budget from time to time and make adjustments where necessary.

The last budget examination was a very thorough one and yielded some small but significant ways we can cut back and ways we can reduce our expenses. My husband saw several ways we can cut out expenses. I saw a number of ways we can reduce the cost of things we can't cut out.

The thermostat was one of the things I saw that could be adjusted for savings. That has worked out well. In the days to come I'll be telling you about some more ways we're working on reducing our expenses. One of the things I'm doing is trying homemade cleaners! More on that later.

Great blog! I'll be reading often!

In this same vein, my Dad recently had the "radiant barrier" spray applied to the ceiling/roof of the attic as well as had new insulation blown in (after 50 years, it was time!) Granted, he is frugal with the thermostat setting also, but his summer electric bill dropped from in the $200's to high $90's. All an inital upfront cost, but will save $$$$ in the longrun!

Until next time...
